Finished reading Ilium by Dan Simmons. It was a bit disappointing, I think it was too conservative. I liked the moravecs and the interface using coloured triangles, circles.

Last.fm started their new Recommendations service. I especially like the slider with popular and obscure. Which allows discovering new things (contrary to Amazon where I only get recommendations about books from an author I already have, or very popular books).

Kahuna is a wonderful two player game we play at work. With our modified rules is, the game is very dynamic and the distribution of island can change dramaticly within one turn.

I have rewritten the software which makes this website. In the previous version the data was stored in a database and the pages were generated using Perl and Mason. The current version stores everything in (xml) files, and generates the pages use Ruby. Storing everything on file makes everything much accessible to me, so hopefully it will be easier to post, and thus do that more often.

I have been playing Machiavelli (it appears there is no English version of this game, and I can not make a link to the distributor because they automaticly link back to the main page) at work. I think what makes it such a nice game is that pure strategies won't work, and there is not much preparation required. When playing with two players, the first player is too strong, especially in the first round, if during the first round the first player takes the "Thief" and discards the "Murderer" his advantage is huge. Therefor we adjusted the rules, such that the first player has to discard a character at random and may choose one from the remaining seven characters. Also we discarded the rule that your buildings may not be destroyed after have build eight buildings.

I have created a new design for this website. I am not completely happy with it, so there probably will be some more tweaking later, but I publish it anyway. I'll try to add the possibility to switch back to an older design (if you think this design is way too ugly I might make the previous one the default). Also there will be some small changes, to give the content more a kind of blog feeling. I do not care how it looks in IE, but it should look fine (more or less) in Mozilla and Opera. This design, which I call "colourful flower", it was designed with the idea that I wanted a bit more colour in the design, and I got a bit irritated by all the nice looking images at the css zen garden (damn, I just found this design).

I have not done a post in the last few days, which is contrary to my goal. And I do not really have a good excuse, I have started working on a new design for this site, which is of course quite a bit of work and won't be finished within a few days, but mostly I just have been reading too much (books and weblogs).
